Same Room, Or Not
What is the difference between a couples massage and a duo massage?
One room or two. Couples Massage puts two tables side by side in a single room; Duo Massage books the same slot in two private rooms with a therapist in each. Both are one appointment, priced for two people.
The same room is what most people picture: you walk in together, you finish together, and the room is set for two before you arrive. It is also the easier first visit for anyone who has never been on a table — what happens at a first massage covers that part. Duo Massage is for the pair who want the same hour without the same audience.
The price difference between them
Duo comes in slightly under Couples at every shared length. Both columns are for two people, not per person.
| Length | Couples · one room, two tables | Duo · two private rooms |
|---|---|---|
| 30 minutes | $136.98 | Not offered |
| 45 minutes | $163.98 | $150 |
| 60 minutes | $178.98 | $168 |
| 75 minutes | $220.98 | $210 |
| 90 minutes | $263 | $253 |
| 2 hours | $350 | $336 |
| 2.5 hours | Not offered | $420 |
Pressure
Can we ask for different pressures?
Yes, on either booking. The two sessions in a couples room are customized separately, so one of you can have firm, slow work on a shoulder locked for a month while the other has long light strokes and falls asleep.
The intake conversation happens per person, not per booking: each guest fills in the same short health form, says what they want, and holds the pressure dial the whole way through — say the word and it lightens on the next stroke. If one of you wants deep tissue, put it in the appointment note.
Add-ons are chosen per person too
An add-on attaches to a guest, not to the appointment: one of you can take cupping across the upper back while the other takes essential oils or a hot towel wrap, at the prices on the add-on list. Cupping and gua sha both leave temporary marks, so mention a wedding or a family photograph before the session, and exfoliation needs a booking of 60 minutes or longer.
What the hour on the table is doing
NCCIH describes the relaxation response — a slower heart rate, lower blood pressure, reduced oxygen consumption and lower stress-hormone levels — as what relaxation techniques such as deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation produce. An hour with both phones off is aimed at the same place. Mayo Clinic Press reports that massage releases endorphins, the body's own painkillers, can reduce heart rate, and that several studies suggest a decrease in stress chemicals such as cortisol. None of it depends on how many people are in the room.
What's Included
Do we both get hot stones?
In the couples room, yes — both guests, at no extra charge. They are the same smooth, heated stones used in a solo hot stone massage, worked along the back and shoulders with organic coconut oil, and the heat is adjusted per guest. Duo bookings are not listed as including them, so ask when you book one.
The two-hour booking adds hot towels for both of you. Everything else is a choice: the room is private either way, coconut oil comes on request, and the couples room is the one with two tables in it.
Salt stones, or no stones at all
A Himalayan salt stone upgrade sits on the add-on list and adds no time to the appointment. If heat is not what you want, say so at the intake and the stones stay off the table — one of you can skip them while the other keeps them.

Timing
How far ahead should you book a couples massage?
Further ahead than a single massage, because a booking for two needs two therapists free at the same moment. Saturdays fill first and the studio is closed on Sunday, so a weekend session is the one to put in the calendar early.
Weekday mornings are the easiest slots on the board. The studio opens at 8 AM on Mondays and Fridays, 9 AM the rest of the week, and closes at 6:30 PM six days a week. Book online through Square at any hour, or call or text (540) 290-3383; hours and directions are on the contact page.
Giving one rather than booking one
A gift card covers a session for two without fixing a date. Square e-gift cards do not expire and arrive by email or text — gift cards and prepaid packages covers how they work.
The seasonal couples offer
Ask about the Anniversary Special for Couples when you call. A couples session with warm stone care, aromatherapy, organic coconut oil and a small thank-you gift. It runs in limited stretches, so ask whether it is on when you book.
Booking a session for two, in order
- Pick the length. Sixty minutes is the standard booking; 90 minutes is the unhurried version of the same session.
- Pick the room — two tables together, or a private room each.
- Book both guests under the one appointment. The menu price already covers two people.
- Leave anything we should know in the appointment note: a pressure preference, an old injury, an add-on one of you wants, or an anniversary.
- Arrive a few minutes early. Both guests complete a short health intake form before a first session.
Who Books It
What do people book a massage for two for?
Anniversaries and birthdays, and a great deal that has nothing to do with romance. The booking page describes the couples session as being for couples, friends, and a parent and child alike, and the room is built to that.
Not everyone booking a pair session lives in Staunton. Waynesboro is about 18 minutes away, I-64 west to VA-262, then US-11 north, and 838 Greenville Avenue sits on the even, west side of US-11 — coming up from the south the door is on your left, a block north of Kline's Dairy Bar. The Waynesboro page covers that drive.
Before either of you books
NCCIH states that massage therapy appears to have few risks when performed by a trained practitioner. What happens here is non-medical bodywork for relaxation, comfort and general wellness. If either guest is pregnant, in active cancer treatment, taking a blood thinner or recovering from surgery, talk with your physician first and then book. Pregnancy has its own booking — say so and we will set the room for prenatal work.
- Couples marking an anniversary or a birthday
- Two friends taking the same afternoon off
- A parent and a grown child — the pairing the menu names outright
- Visitors in town for a show at the Blackfriars Playhouse
- One guest who books firm work and one who books the quietest hour on the menu
One appointment, two people, and two sessions that never have to match.

Massage therapy is a licensed profession in Virginia. The Virginia Board of Nursing issues the Licensed Massage Therapist credential, and § 54.1-3029 of the Code of Virginia requires an applicant to be at least 18 and to have completed a massage therapy program of at least 500 hours, then to pass the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards licensing examination or another the Board accepts. To renew every two years, 18VAC90-50-75 asks a therapist either to hold current NCBTMB certification or to complete 24 hours of continuing education including an hour of professional ethics. Any Virginia licence can be checked, free, on the Department of Health Professions lookup. Ask us who is working on the day you book, and check the licence yourself.
Sessions at Healing Touch Body Work are offered for relaxation and general wellness. They do not diagnose, treat or replace medical care. If you are pregnant, managing a health condition, or dealing with pain that is new, severe or getting worse, talk with your physician first — the two work well together.
Before You Book
Couples Massage in Staunton, VA: questions we get asked
How much is a couples massage in Staunton, VA?
At Healing Touch Body Work on Greenville Avenue, a 60-minute couples massage is $178.98 for both guests, with sessions from 30 minutes to 2 hours and heated stones for each person. A Duo booking in two separate rooms starts at $150 for two. Both are online booking prices and include the card processing fee; cash is lower.
Is a couples massage priced per person or for the pair?
For the pair. Every price on the couples and duo menus covers two people in one appointment, which is why a couples hour sits above a single hour on the price list without being a more expensive massage.
Do you have to be a couple to book a couples massage?
No. The booking page describes the session as being for couples, friends, and a parent and child alike, and it is booked exactly that way — pairs of friends, sisters, a parent and a grown child.
Can one of us have firm pressure and the other something gentle?
Yes. Each session in the room is customized separately from its own intake conversation, so one guest can have deep, focused work while the other has a light, flowing hour. Book Duo if you want a private room each.
Do both guests get heated stones?
In the couples room, both of you, at no extra charge — smooth heated stones worked along the back and shoulders with organic coconut oil, with the heat adjusted per guest. Duo bookings are not listed as including them, so ask when you book. The two-hour booking adds hot towels for either room.
How far ahead should we book a couples massage?
Earlier than you would for one person, because two therapists have to be free in the same slot, and Saturdays fill first. Book online through Square at any hour, or call or text (540) 290-3383.
Can we book a couples massage on a Sunday?
No — the studio is closed on Sunday. Appointments run Monday to Saturday, 8 or 9 AM to 6:30 PM. Saturday evening is the closest thing to a weekend slot for two, and it goes first.
Is there a couples package or a seasonal couples offer?
An Anniversary Special for Couples appears on the booking page in limited runs — a couples session with warm stone care, aromatherapy, organic coconut oil and a small thank-you gift, in four lengths. Ask whether it is running when you call. Gift cards and prepaid packages run year-round.
