Distance

How far is Healing Touch from Waynesboro?

About 18 minutes, and 14 miles door to door. The route is I-64 west to VA-262 — the Woodrow Wilson Parkway — then US-11 north, which becomes Greenville Avenue and runs straight past number 838.

Waynesboro is the largest town inside a twenty minute drive — 22,196 people at the 2020 census, against 9,629 in Fishersville. The round trip adds a little over half an hour to whatever session you book, and the contact page carries a drive time for every town we serve.

Which side of Greenville Avenue we are on

The left, coming from Waynesboro. 838 is an even number and the even numbers run down the west side of US-11, so you cross the centre turn lane into the lot. Look for the brown standing-seam roof and the blue wrought-iron bench by the door.

The Route

What is the drive actually like?

Ten of the fourteen miles are interstate, and there are two turns after you leave it.

I-64 west out of Waynesboro runs flat along the valley floor. VA-262 is the bypass that loops Staunton to the south and west, and you are off it again within a couple of miles. Nothing on the route climbs.

Rockfish Gap stays behind you

This drive runs away from the mountain. Rockfish Gap — where Skyline Drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail meet, under five miles from town — is on the far side of Waynesboro from us, so Afton fog and October leaf traffic are never on your route. They are on the route from Crozet and Charlottesville.

Waynesboro to 838 Greenville Ave, turn by turn

  1. Pick up I-64 west from downtown Waynesboro — South Delphine Avenue is the usual on-ramp.
  2. Stay on I-64 west about ten miles, past the Fishersville exits.
  3. Take the VA-262 exit, the Woodrow Wilson Parkway, around the south of Staunton.
  4. Come off onto US-11 north; it becomes Greenville Avenue inside a mile.
  5. 838 is on your left, behind the blue bench. Turn into the lot.

The Menu

What do Waynesboro clients book most?

The custom hour — the session most people book here, whichever town they drove in from.

It is the right first booking because pressure and focus areas are set in conversation. The named sessions do what their names say: Swedish is long flowing strokes at light to moderate pressure, and deep tissue is slower and firmer across one or two areas.

If two of you are driving over

Two tables in one room, and heated stones for both. Couples massage is priced for the pair — 60 minutes is $178.98 for two — and the 2 hour version adds hot towels. An afternoon slot leaves the evening free for whatever is on at the Wayne Theatre back home.

  • 45 minutes, if the drive and the massage must fit inside two hours
  • 60 or 90 minutes for a shoulder that has not let go in a month
  • 2 hours or longer, where heated stones come at no extra charge
  • Hot stone, or the reflexology add-on that attaches to a massage

The Case

Is it worth the drive from Waynesboro?

A 60 minute Swedish massage here is $84.80 and a 60 minute deep tissue is $95. Those are the same numbers a Staunton resident pays, and they are online booking prices, which include the card processing fee.

Sessions run in English, Chinese or Thai, and one dollar from every session goes to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

An hour here is offered for relaxation and general wellness, which is how the federal research bodies frame it. NCCIH describes the body's relaxation response as slowing the heart rate, lowering blood pressure and bringing down stress-hormone levels; its massage page puts the risk of harmful effects from massage as low when a trained practitioner is doing the work.

What comes with the room, at any length

Organic food-grade coconut oil on request, a complimentary heat treatment, a private room, and a short health intake form on a first visit. Waynesboro is a manufacturing town — DuPont's plant there invented Lycra, and The Lycra Company still runs the site — and shift work comes up often in the intake conversation.

Hours

When should I book?

Earlier in the week, and earlier in the day if you are driving over. Saturdays fill first.

Doors open at 8:00 AM Monday, Friday and Saturday, at 9:00 AM Tuesday through Thursday, and close at 6:30 PM six days a week. Sunday is closed. Leaving Waynesboro at half past seven on a Saturday puts you in the first slot of the day, with Ridgeview Park and Constitution Park — Virginia's first urban trout fishery — still ahead.

For an evening booking, NCCIH sets the adult target at 7 to 8 hours a night and names winding down before bed as part of getting there.

Booking, gift cards and the cancellation window

Square takes bookings at any hour; the phone takes calls and texts while the studio is open, and we ask for 24 hours' notice to cancel. Gift cards and prepaid packages are how a lot of out-of-town booking happens, and the FAQ covers what to wear and tipping.

Massage therapy is a licensed profession in Virginia. The Virginia Board of Nursing issues the Licensed Massage Therapist credential, and § 54.1-3029 of the Code of Virginia requires an applicant to be at least 18 and to have completed a massage therapy program of at least 500 hours, then to pass the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards licensing examination or another the Board accepts. To renew every two years, 18VAC90-50-75 asks a therapist either to hold current NCBTMB certification or to complete 24 hours of continuing education including an hour of professional ethics. Any Virginia licence can be checked, free, on the Department of Health Professions lookup. Ask us who is working on the day you book, and check the licence yourself.

Sessions at Healing Touch Body Work are offered for relaxation and general wellness. They do not diagnose, treat or replace medical care. If you are pregnant, managing a health condition, or dealing with pain that is new, severe or getting worse, talk with your physician first — the two work well together.

Is there parking, or do I need to find a space downtown?

There is an on-site lot. The studio sits on the US-11 commercial strip on the south side of Staunton, not in the downtown historic district, so no one-way streets and no meters.

Can two of us book together if we are driving over from Waynesboro?

Yes. Couples massage puts two tables in one private room with heated stones for both, from $178.98 for two at 60 minutes. For separate rooms in the same slot, book the duo. Both fill early on Saturdays.
